The process
In October 2006, the superintendent of Gold Creek Country Club, Scott Harris, requested a recommendation from Living Turf sales agronomist, Rob Cooper. Scott was seeking a soil amendment to increase water and nutrient holding in a new sand green construction - enter Stuart Miller from Paton Fertilizers and the solution - NutriSmart®

NutriSmart® Eco-fertiliser
NutriSmart® Eco-fertiliser is a rich source of organic carbon, inoculated with selected strains of yeast and formulated to a uniform and dust free granule. When incorporated into the soil, NutriSmart® granules come to life, with yeast bacteria feeding from the carbon based granule. A wide range of metabolites are then generated to mobilise soil nutrients and stimulate turf root hair development. 

Results
The soil profile of this new putting green was installed to USGA specifications. On a 350sqm putting green, 1,500kg of NutriSmart® was spread and rotary hoed to a depth
of 200mm. Bentgrass turf was laid as sod and a slow release starter was used to encourage establishment. After 5 weeks the root zone was sampled and the results easily speak for themselves.

The Gold Creek experience demonstrates how NutriSmart® granules are sought out by the turfgrass roots.  The mass stimulation causes the granules to become attached to root hairs around the immediate vicinity of the granule in the soil.
